Over 100 year old print of “A Fortune-Teller,” a 1777 genre painting by the British artist Joshua Reynolds. Framed in York
The painting portrays a scene where a fortune teller is reading the palm of a woman, who has a young girl on her lap.
“A Fortune-Teller” is considered an example of ‘fancy paintings,’ a type of large-format painting depicting scenes of everyday life that Reynolds began experimenting with in the 1770s.
The original painting is housed at Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, and other versions exist, such as a 1781 painting at Kenwood House in Highgate.
The original painting is from the Tudor or Jacobean era.
It is described as a “unique print” from the early 20th century, presented in a gold frame.
On the back, the frame shows the prints age duentonthe wear and tear. It has a framers advert that reads:
