Description
This item is an antique fire basket or dog grate, dating from the 19th century. Recoveted from a Tadcaster home.
It features a cast iron fire basket for holding fuel and very impressive brass andirons (fire dogs) with decorative finials for supporting logs. It has a copper canopy also with decorative finials
The structure is designed to be placed inside a larger fireplace to improve heating efficiency by raising the fuel off the hearth.
