Large 43″ Salt Glazed Victorian Jackson’s Patent Chimney Pot

£150.00

A piece of industrial history from Huddersfield.

Description

Fantastic looking chimney pot with a very unique branded logo on the base. The branding looks to have been added before being glazed, which is a technique I have not seen before.

Unfortunately, it has had a part removed from the top, possibly a louvered vent.

While the Jacksons in Huddersfield were famous for their patented fire extinguishers, they also manufactured specialised ventilation and chimney systems in the 19th century.

These pots were designed to improve “up-draught” and prevent smoky fireplaces, making them a high-tech home improvement of their era.

Thr pot is made of salt-glazed stoneware, a durable ceramic finished with common salt during firing to create that distinctive glossy, “orange-peel” texture.

Dimensions;

Height – 43″

Base – 13″ x 13″
