A waterscape scene featuring two figures on a romantic evening punt boat journey amidst tall reeds.
One figure stands in the punt, holding a long pole. The other figure sits in the front of the boat, wearing a hat and observing the scene.
The scene is set on, possibly a marsh or shallow bay, indicated by the presence of numerous reeds or cattails that dominate the foreground and background.
The standing figure’s posture with the presence of birds in the sky (though small and indistinct) The boat’s design and the use of a long pole are consistent with punting, a common method for navigating shallow, reedy waters.

Neil Spilman is a British Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1951.

Neil was born in the village of Hemingbrough in Yorkshire in 1951. Entirely self-taught, Neil discovered a natural ability for painting and drawing from an early age.

After leaving school, Neil went to work as a Shipwright/Loftsman, painting in his spare time.
Ten years later in 1977 he left the shipyard to start his dream of becoming a full time artist, initially working mainly on portraits later branching into Landscape and Wildlife in which he was able to develop his love for detail combined with the impression of strong light on the scenery.
